Ogulin has a way of blending myth and history that makes it feel like a place straight out of a storybook. During a one-day road trip, I wandered into the heart of town and found myself standing in front of an arched stone gate with the sun peeking through the trees—and I knew I had to capture it. Moments like this are why I always keep my camera ready.
This photo shows the entrance to the Frankopan Castle, one of Ogulin’s most recognizable landmarks. Framed by the thick stone walls of the gate, the path leads toward the 16th-century fortress, now home to a museum and a courtyard that often hosts cultural events. It’s also connected to local legends, including the tales of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, Croatia’s beloved writer of children’s stories, who was born here.
For me, the light coming through the bare branches and the worn texture of the stone created a composition that speaks to Ogulin’s timeless character. It’s not just about the architecture—it’s the way it feels to stand there, imagining all the stories that passed through that arch.
