On a short road trip through Istria, I stumbled upon a quiet, charming village that feels like time forgot about it – Kotli. Tucked away from the main roads, it’s one of those places that makes you slow down and appreciate the simple, peaceful side of Croatia.
This photo captures a rustic stone house with vivid blue shutters and colorful flower pots – a perfect slice of village life in Kotli. The sign with the village name adds to the character, while the bright autumn sun brings out the warm tones in the stone. It’s a visual reminder of how photogenic even the smallest corners of Croatia can be.
Kotli is known for its preserved rural architecture and its peaceful setting near the Mirna River. While small in size, it has a surprisingly rich history, once serving as a local milling center. Today, it’s a quiet getaway spot for anyone exploring inland Istria and looking to photograph authentic, lesser-known Croatian gems.
If you’re into off-the-beaten-path places with a lot of character, Kotli is definitely worth the stop.
