Morning walks are one of the best ways to discover hidden corners of small towns. In Nin, I wasn’t expecting to come across a piece of Roman history just standing there in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. But that’s part of what makes places like this so rewarding to explore. This photo was taken on May 6th, 2024, during a peaceful stroll through the old part of town.
The column in the photo is all that remains of what was once a Roman temple. It rises from a rough stone base, with fig leaves nearby and traditional Dalmatian houses behind it. The early sun lit the scene perfectly, and the crisp blue sky made the column stand out even more. It’s one of those moments where ancient and everyday life quietly overlap.
Nin has a deep history that often goes under the radar. It was once the Roman town of Aenona, and the temple this column belonged to would’ve been a major part of public life. Even though only this one column remains, it says a lot — not just about what was here before, but about how these layers of history are still part of the present-day town.
If you’re into photography or history, Nin is a small town that delivers. It’s easy to walk, full of quiet charm, and offers plenty of unique photo opportunities — especially in the early hours before the day gets busy.
