My brief stop in Vinkovci was one of those spontaneous moments that stuck with me long after I left. The sun was shining, the sky was a clean blue, and the town square had this welcoming energy—helped by the colorful flags fluttering in the breeze above the café-lined streets.
This photo captures a slice of that atmosphere: a lineup of flags representing the European Union, Croatia, and the local municipality, standing tall in front of bright orange facades that instantly grabbed my attention. There’s something about the symmetry and color palette here that made it worth photographing. You can really feel the civic pride and local identity in this scene.
Vinkovci is actually the oldest continuously inhabited town in Europe, with roots going back over 8,000 years. But today, it’s a mix of rich heritage and everyday life. The architecture around the square hints at Austro-Hungarian influences, while the flags highlight its role in a broader European context. It’s this blend of local and global, old and new, that makes towns like Vinkovci so photographable.
