Sunset Silhouettes at Zadar’s Greetings to the Sun

Date:

There’s something magnetic about Zadar at sunset — and if you’ve ever stood at the edge of the peninsula, you probably get it. The colors, the sea, and the silhouettes all come together in a way that makes you stop and soak it in. This photo captures exactly that moment, taken on May 6th, 2024, right at the iconic Greetings to the Sun installation.

The image shows a glowing horizon, crowds gently gathered at the edge, and a polished surface that reflects the figures and fading light. I love how the people become part of the artwork, unintentionally creating a living, moving scene framed by golden skies and shimmering reflections. That combination of human presence and natural beauty is what keeps bringing people back to this spot.

The Greetings to the Sun is one of Zadar’s modern landmarks, designed by Croatian architect Nikola Bašić. It’s made of hundreds of solar panels that absorb sunlight during the day and light up in dynamic patterns at night. It’s located right next to the Sea Organ — another of Bašić’s creations — which uses the motion of the sea to produce sounds. Together, they turn this public space into a sensory experience that’s hard to forget.

If you’re planning a trip to Dalmatia, don’t miss this spot — especially in the early evening. It’s not just a great place to take photos; it’s also the kind of place that gives you a moment of quiet, even when it’s full of people.
